Guitarist-composer-researcher

Stefano Moccetti is a guitarist from Lugano, Switzerland. He studied at the University School of Music in Lugano under Lorenzo Micheli, earning a Master of Music in Performance in 2019. During his studies, he was awarded first prizes at several national and international competitions, including the Swiss Youth Music Competition (Bern) and the Concorso Rovere d'Oro (Italy). He further refined his artistic profile through masterclasses with internationally renowned guitarists such as Aniello Desiderio, Pavel Steidl, and Jonathan Leathwood.

His rigorous training at the Lugano Conservatoire provided him with a strong foundation in music theory, ear training, and analytical skills, which continue to play a central role in both his artistic and pedagogical approach.

Stefano develops several artistic and research projects in the context of his academic work at the International Guitar Research Centre, University of Surrey (UK), where he has been leading a performance-composition research project since 2023 under Prof. Stephen Goss. His work explores the pre-Segovian era, improvisation, collaborative composition, and the creation of original works and idiomatic arrangements for guitar. He collaborates closely with contemporary composers and leading musicians and regularly presents these projects at international conferences.

As a soloist, he recently performed the Guitar Concerto, Op. 99 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with orchestra in 2025, including a performance at the Auditorio Stelio Molo, RSI. Alongside his solo activity, he performs regularly in chamber music settings and collaborates with a wide range of emerging and established musicians active on the Swiss music scene.

In 2020, he founded a duo with Slovak violinist Anton Jablokov. After gaining recognition in Switzerland, the duo made its international debut in Italy, Ireland, and Germany in 2023. During their last tours in Ireland, the duo performed a series of sold-out concerts, presenting their latest album featuring original compositions and arrangements for violin and guitar. Their programs blend original works with arrangements of classical repertoire, as well as folk and popular music.

Parallel to his artistic activity, Stefano has been teaching guitar for over a decade, including several years at music schools in Ticino, such as the Civica Filarmonica di Lugano. His pedagogical work includes individual instruction, ensemble coaching, and the preparation of students for concerts and examinations, covering ear training, music history, analysis, and harmony. He also collaborates with cultural institutions, contributes to the organization of concert series and musical projects, and is invited as a guest on radio programs and cultural broadcasts.
